Stop lugging around that PC
I'm sick of lugging around my PC to the LC to show PowerPoints to the students. I've been holding off buying a new iPod since I can't really justify getting a new one. I have a 3G iPod and it's holding up just fine after a new battery install a few months ago. But, I've been helping Doreen with her new 5G 30GB model and we've just figured out how to rename her slide files to insure the correct order of play from her iPod. Kind of a pain in the ass work around, but still very nice. All she'll need is an AV cable and she's off! Now I wanna get a new iPod and do the same thing! Wahh!

Now that I've got the PowerPoints into my camera, I need to really watch the renaming of the slides to insure that they stay in the correct order. Here's where Windows really sux. Files naturally want to be ordered like this:
Slide 1
Slide 10
Slide 11...
Slide 2
Slide 20...
etc...
I figured out how to get around this by using Windows XP and an app called "Batch Renamer". Windows XP maintains the proper order while BRN makes the files compliant with Canon's firmware. First, I select the files. Then I right-click and choose "Rename" on the first file. After that, I change the name to "name (10)". Then finally, I run BRN to change the names to "IMG_XXXX.JPG". Finally a solid protocol for getting stuff from PowerPoint into my digicam. I just wish there was a way of saving the slides into a higher resolution, but maybe later.
I have to say, I've been using this method for almost a month now and it rocks! I can't think of a time when I needed to bring my heavy laptop around to show PowerPoints. I'm so happy!
